Dairy of a Jazz Tragic

7.30 First set with The Jazz Drive including Noriyo Washuizu, Kevin Blaze and Anne Smith

8.15 Listened to Kevin Blazes ‘ group   “Its a Vibe”  very tasty

10.30 Anne Smith became Annabella Schmit in a group of polished muscos from the south east of Melbourne. Smooth as silk.

11.00 Anne and Noriyo joined in the Street March.

12.45 Enjoyed listening to Ade Ish (came to several jams last year)

2 .15 Second set with Marion Jaz and Bill whilst Anne Smith was elsewhere singing a set in the place of a singer who had taken ill

2.30 Asked to organize a band to fill in for a group at their restaurant gig later in the evening whilst they were playing a festival set. Of course Noriyo was going to be on piano.

4.30 First set with the Jazz Travellers lead by past Jammer Bill Leithhead and featuring Anne Smith

5.15 Ran from one end of the main street with Saxophone and music stand to join Noriyo and Terry Costello for the first set with the West Coast Little Big Band.

Comment.  Marion Lustig’s Lazy Ade, Keith Hughes’ group and Anne Hayres’ combo were all well received from reports. For some reason I was unable to get around to everything on the program.

Overall standard of music   ….very high

  1. Just a minor correction – my band is called Sweet Ade. However, Lazy Ade is a good guess, as the band is named not only after the “sweet” sound of the recorder, but after the so-called father figure of Australian jazz, sometimes known as “Lazy” Ade Monsbrough.
    Catch us at Inverloch!

  2. Thanks for mentioning me, Captain Col.

Minor correction: Kevin’s band is called “It’s the Vibe” instead of “It’s a Vibe” (oh, and my name is ade ishs, although the last “s” is silenced in pronunciation).

I was happy to sit in with It’s the Vibe on Sunday.
